Client Case Study: Church Building in SE1

Feltham Demolition demolished old church buildings

Feltham Demolition was recently tasked with demolishing a church building in southeast London.

Job Description:

The old building, constructed in the 1950s, was situated behind the historic London church and had served the church for many years. However, due to the ageing of the building, it was decided that it should be demolished to make room for a new structure. Feltham Demolition was honoured to take on the project.

The first step in the demolition process was to inspect the building for asbestos. Asbestos was commonly used as a flame retardant in buildings built between the 1930s and 1970s before its associated health risks were widely known. Our survey revealed the presence of asbestos in the insulating panels, which was then carefully removed to ensure the demolition could continue safely.

The demolition was completed in just two days. Construction site hoarding was installed to protect the Church from potential damage, and our grab lorries were used to maintain cleanliness on the site. Following the demolition, our excavation team levelled the ground to prepare the site for the construction of the new building.

The client was pleased with the demolition and the exceptional performance of our team. The removal of the construction site hoarding around the church was completed well in advance of Sunday’s service.

Feltham Demolition and the Environment

At Feltham Demolition, we are deeply committed to environmental responsibility. Our grab-hire lorries enabled us to recycle 98% of the materials from this project, including dirt, debris, metal, and wood. These recycled materials were then used in the construction of the new building’s foundations so nothing went to waste.
