Our muckaway services team were recently contacted by a client who required a new car park to be constructed in Colnbrook, Berkshire. Before they could begin the project, they required Feltham Demolition to prepare the ground prior for surfacing.
Job description
Before our arrival, the site had been abandoned for several years, causing plant and grass overgrowth and debris. As a result, our first step was to demolish an existing structure and level the ground using Feltham’s own JCB excavators, which allowed us to start with a clean slate. Once this was complete, we moved on to applying the crushed concrete to create a solid base for the car park.
Crushed concrete is an environmentally friendly choice for car park construction that utilises remnants from previous construction projects as a foundation, preventing excess waste across multiple projects. We used chippings of Type 1 limestone due to its excellent drainage properties and robust nature, making it capable of withstanding years of being driven over. Limestone also has the added benefit of being cost-effective and easy to use. Once spread across the site, we were able to roll it into place using our steam rollers, similar to any other concrete.
The client was thrilled with the final result and the speed and efficiency with which we completed the project. It took just 2 days to complete, leaving the car park ready for its top layer surfacing.
