5-bedroom house demolition in Egham with our grab-hire service

July 15, 2025by Admin0

Project Overview

Feltham Demolition were hired to fully demolish a large 5-bedroom house in Egham for new residential development. The most important thing to the client was to remove a lot of waste materials. The customer wanted to get the site cleared quickly to start the construction side of the project, and he didn’t want any left over rubble or waste to jeopardise the new project.

The house was old so the demolition produced a lot of waste materials, most notably bricks, concrete, timber, copper and some steael, which had to be manually sorted and disposed of quickly to stay on schedule. There was also some asbestos in an old garage outbuilding which required specialist asbestos removal

The aim was to clear the major site as quickly as possible while minimising disruption to the surrounding properties and Egham streets. The client further stressed the need for an environmentally friendly solution that would require the recycling of as much demolition waste as possible. Fortunately, at Feltham Demolition, we pride ourselves on our environmental standards on all projects.

What We Did

We use our own grab-hire service in Egham for this specific project (A lorry with a hydraulic arm collected the debris). This was preferred over skip-hire for several key reasons. It will take multiple skips and a lot of man-labour due to the size of the project. The advantage of grab lorries are that they can remove the waste from the site and take it to recycling centres quickly. This ensures costs of kept down and environmental impact limited by using less lorries. We also use our mobile crusher to break concrete down so it could be easily transported off site and reused on another project.

On this house demolition, we also used extensive dust and debris control measures throughout to prevent neighbours from being impacted. A four-metre high tarpaulin barricade was erected all along the boundary and debris netting was installed. We also installed construction site hoarding to reduce noise pollution and for added security.

Cost Savings

We will always aim to cut costs where we can for our clients. A happy client is one that receives value for money.

On this project, our client saved time and money by not needing multiple skips which would have taken more time to fill and taken more space on-site. For such large residential demolitions, you risk expensive disposal costs and longer hire durations if you skip-hire. When we used our grab-hire service the waste was loaded and removed quickly and efficiently, lowering costs and time taken for the site clearance.

We took waste to our recycling yard where sorting of the materials happens. The staff members took out the concrete and timber and bricks and metal from the construction site which can be reused.

The Results

The client was delighted with our grab-hire service and accelerated site demolition service. Our efficient team made sure that the large site was fit for stage two development when required. The use of the grab lorry allowed the client to keep their deadline and avoid logistical problems with having several skips on a large house demolition.

They were also impressed by how our team recycled as much as possible from the demolition waster and with our high environmental standards. Our speedy site clearance enabled the construction team to begin work right away, keeping the project on time and budget. Importantly, we received a pep talk from nearby residents where neighbours praised us for how we managed the dust and debris. All round satisfaction.

Feltham Demolition and the Environment.

Recycling is an important aspect of our demolition services as part of our commitment to sustainability. We took the materials back to our recycling facility after collecting the waste from the 5-bedroom house in Egham.

We crushed the heavy bricks and concrete into reusable aggregates for use as roadworks and foundation for the new buildings. The concrete from the Egham project can be used for construction purposes at new housing developments or for building infrastructure in the local area. As a result, this reduces the need for newly quarried materials, thus lessening the environmental impact.

The metal waste, such as steel structural components and fittings, were segregated and sent to metal recycling places where they were processed for reuse. Recycled steel is widely used in the construction for the structural framework of new buildings and the manufacturing of various other construction materials thus creates more jobs.

They salvage timber and then clean and reuse it. Timber is great for new builds or landscaping. It is most often timber from a home demolition that would otherwise just go to waste.

We’re helping this 5-bedroom house becomes a part of the local construction again via recycling. This way, less stuff is thrown in a landfill and reused in construction nearby instead. We’re doing our part for sustainable development in Egham, Staines, and the surrounding areas.
